Nissan is offering a new base model GT-R for 2018 that will provide all of the performance-necessary features, functions and capability expected of the GT-R Premium – minus a few features – that allows a price point under three-figures for the first time in several years.

The new 2018 Nissan GT-R Pure model will price at MSRP $99,990 plus delivery and taxes.  Compared to the GT-R Premium, the Pure will be equipped with a basic six-speaker AM/FM/CD MP3 audio system instead of the standard Bose 11-speaker audio with its Bose Active Noise Cancellation. Also missing will be the otherwise standard Active Sound Enhancement and Titanium exhaust systems.

All other features and capability of the GT-R Premium are found on the GT-R Pure.

2018 GT-R Premium

The GT-R has been around since 2009 and has incrementally – through those years – added more performance and capability each year for the driving enthusiast who wants an exciting daily driver that can make short work of the open road – or track – when desired.  Featuring iconic styling, distinctive performance and up-to-date convenience with a price point just over three-figures, the Premium draw fans from all demographic levels.

The Nissan GT-R Premium  is all about performance under the hood, on the road and in the driver seat.

For 2018 the GT-R Premium is powered by the VR38DETT 3.8L twin-turbo engine delivering 565 horsepower and 467 lb.-ft. of torque equipped with a Titanium exhaust system that, combined with the Active Noise Cancellation of the premium Bose Audio and Active Sound Enhancement technologies, filter out unwanted noise, replacing it with the sound of driving excitement.

An advanced paddle-shifter equipped six-speed dual clutch transmission and sequential-shifting transaxle delivers the power super-quickly to the road through the electronically-controlled ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system. With a rear-drive bias, up to 50-percent of power can be transferred to front wheels with torque split appropriately when needed.

The drive system features automatic/manual modes, configurable shift control, downshift rev matching, traction control with limited slip, Vehicle Dynamic Control , Hill Start Assist, Yaw Rate Feedback Control and a snow-mode function.   Steering is speed-sensitive power rack and pinion.

Superb handling is delivered through a 4-wheel independent GT-R specific adjustable Bilstein DampTronic suspension.  Special switches (Normal, Special or ‘R’) allow driver management and control by adjusting transmission, shock absorbers and the Vehicle Dynamic Control System depending on the driving setup desired.

Solid braking is accomplished via Brembo six-piston mono-block calipers with 15.35-inch rotors front and four piston mono-block calipers with 15.0-inch rotors rear.

Wheels are GT-R specific 20-inch, Rays 20-spoke forged aluminum alloy mounted with Dunlop High Performance tires.

In the cockpit are sculpted performance bucket seats with a driver-surrounding instrument panel with all meters and multi-function display at a uniform height. A large center-mounted tachometer with gear display to the right and distinctive graphics on the multi-function display give the driver instant detailed information at a glance.

A narrow center console features a Display Command Control to allow operation of the NissanConnect with Navigation and Services infotainment systems without needing to touch the 8-inch monitor.

The full range of Nissan standard safety and convenience equipment and technologies are standard on the GT-R.

Priced at MSRP $110,490, the 2018 GT-R Premium offers seven colors and three available Premium Interior packages (colors) and All-Weather package for the GT-R Premium.

The other GT-R offerings for 2018 (both limited) include the Track Edition and NISMO – both essentially unchanged from their 2017 versions.

2018 GT-R Track Edition

The 2018 Nissan GT-R Track Edition will have an MSRP of $128,490 for 2018.  It is designed for the more race-focused performance driver and – though powered by the same drive train as the GT-R Premium – contains a number of NISMO level elements that make it palpably ‘hotter’ than the Premium.

Through use of additional bonding adhesives, it has more body shell rigidity, uses a NISMO-tuned 4-wheel independent suspension, NISMO front fenders and wider 20-inch NISMO forged aluminum wheels with NISMO-spec nitrogen-filled Dunlop ultra-high-performance tires, carbon fibre rear spoiler, heated Recaro racing seating with 4-point safety harnesses and red/black interior.

The GT-R Track Edition comes in five colors and has no packages or other options available.

2018 GT-R NISMO

The GT-R NISMO is back for those who have the means and insist on having the hottest of the GT-R series in their garage.

NISMO – for 2018 – includes all of the NISMO features and capability you expect from a NISsan MOtorsports Performance engineered vehicle starting with the 600 horsepower / 481 lb.-ft. of torque 3.8L V6 power plant.  Matched to the advance independent rear 6-speed transaxle all-wheel-drive system – its NISMO tuned suspension, aerodynamic exterior elements and interior performance-focused cockpit with enhanced technology features – make the NISMO an absolute ‘race car in street clothing’ as Nissan calls it.

NISMO specific features include carbon fibre trunk lid, spoiler, front and rear bumpers and lower front undercover. Wheels are 20-inch lightweight 6-spoke Rays forged aluminum alloy with black finish and mounted with (NISMO-specific compound) Dunlop Sports Maxx GT600 ultra-high-performance run-flat tires (Front 255/40ZRF20 – Rear 285/35ZRF20).

Inside are a NISMO racing style Alcantra-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel in dark gray with red stripe, Alcantra covered dash, leather-appointed sculpted Recaro racing seats with red suede inserts and discreet red stitching trim accents throughout.

Costing just $500 more than last year, it will set you back MSRP $175,490 plus another $3,000 for the Super Silver paint or a mere $1,000 for the Pearl White special paint.  In the Pearl White – it pops for us with the NISMO signature red trim and distinctive badging –  and including delivery of $1,695, the GT-R NISMO gets into our garage for $178,185 plus change for taxes and other fees.
