2018 Nissan Rogue SL AWD Ride/Drive

The Nissan Rogue continues to set a torrid pace for the SUV/CUV segment in 2018. Following an impressive 2017 performance, sales in May were 38,413 units, an 18 percent increase over prior year. Year-to-date 2018, Rogue has sold nearly 180,000 units – a 10.4 percent increase over the same period 2017.

There is a reason for that. The 2018 Nissan Rogue CUV family (including Rogue Hybrid and Rogue Sport) offer more performance, convenience, comfort and technology for consumers to choose from than most of the competition.  Packaged well and priced right – they sell.

Our recent week in a top-of-the-line 2018 Rogue SL AWD – priced well under $40,000 loaded with everything except the garage to park it in – is proof of that.

Powertrain and Mechanical

The 2018 Nissan Rogue is powered by a 2.5L four-cylinder engine producing 170 horsepower with 175 lb.-ft. of torque delivered through a next-generation advanced Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) with Sport and Eco modes.

Well powered, our SL AWD drove and handled incredibly well.

Equipped with the Nissan Intuitive All-Wheel Drive (AWD) System that knows when you are cruising or cornering – it monitors wheel traction individually and redirects torque as needed automatically. In addition, the Rogue’s Active Ride Control, Active Trace Control and Active Engine Braking deliver individual wheel braking for smoother cornering, adjust engine torque and braking to smooth out bumps in the road and use the CVT transmission to smooth out deceleration when cornering or coming to a stop.

Underneath, Rogue ride and handling are enhanced by a 4-wheel independent suspension, Electric Power-assisted Steering, 4-wheel vented disc brakes with Anti-lock Braking System and Vehicle Dynamic Control with Traction Control System, Hill Start Assist and Tire Pressure Monitoring System with position monitoring.

Adding to the ride quality of our SL AWD was the addition of the optional 19-inch aluminum wheels mounted with 225/55R19 all-season tires.

Since you asked, fuel economy for the Rogue AWD is rated at an efficient 25/32 mpg city/highway and 27 mpg combined.  With its 14.5-gallon fuel tank, highway range is about 450 miles.

A word about ProPilot Assist

The Nissan ProPILOT Assist system organizes and integrates lane-keep assistance features with the Intelligent Cruise Control to assist the driver.  It is not a ‘self-driving’ feature – constant driver engagement (with hands on the wheel) is required. It is functional for single lane road travel only. By utilizing a forward- facing camera, forward-facing radar, sensors and electronic control module to help the driver stay in the center of the driving lane – it maintains vehicle speed (set by the driver) and helps maintain a gap to the preceding vehicle if the vehicle speed drops below the driver-set speed. It also can slow the vehicle to a complete stop and holds the vehicle during traffic jam conditions
