BELTS AND HOSES, WHEN DO WE DO IT?

Mike: Rochelle, I would certainly have my dealer check them out at your next service. Normally, I recommend replacing the serpentine belt at about 60-70k, so you should be due. (not horribly expensive) With only one belt running almost everything, when it fails- it is bad news. Your a/c belt is a smaller belt and should be replaced at the same time. As far as hoses go, they should be ready to be replaced. They usually only last about 6-7years. Since hoses deteriorate from the inside, they may look good, but be ready to fail. It is better to be safe than sorry. Hose replacement can run a couple of hundred dollars. I know this adds up, but a broken belt or a blown hose could cost you an engine in the thousands of dollars, so don’t let this one go.
