Performance & Safety

The 2017 Ford Edge drives much like a car which gives it a very stable and in-control feel. There is minimal body lean around turns and it is both comfortable and enjoyable to drive. A quiet cabin treats passengers to a pleasant ride as well.

Our Edge Sport came equipped with exclusive AWD and a turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It packs plenty of punch for when you need it and is a blast to have even when you don’t. EPA estimated mpg is 17/24 city/highway.

Safety features on the Ford Edge include antilock brakes, front knee airbags, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, rearview camera, and traction and stability control. On the cusp of having a teen driver, I love that Ford has “MyKey,” a system in which a parent can set parameters.  The primary features of ‘MyKey’ are:  1) The Belt Minder which gives a six-second chime every 30 seconds and mutes the audio system until the teen fastens their seat belts. 2) Top Speed Settings: When activated, the system will not let your teen accelerate more than you let them. 3) Radio Content Screening:  Prevents teens from listening to all radio stations that are labeled “explicit” by Sirius Satellite Radio. In addition, the speaker volume is limited up to 45% of the max volume. 4) Earlier Low Fuel Warning:  Teen drivers won’t be able to ignore their dwindling fuel, the system provides a warning that lets them they need to fill up sooner than later. Optional equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning as well as forward collision warning.
