The 2023 Electrified G80 AWD is Genesis’ first EV model. The G80 – at the core of the Genesis sedan line-up – already regarded by many as a beautiful balance of athletic elegance and performance, was the perfect platform to introduce electrification to the Genesis buyer.
Yes, it is the same Genesis G80 AWD you can get with an internal combustion engine except this one has a big battery, a couple of powerful drive motors with 282 miles of range AND capability to recharge the “tank” from 10% to 80% (another 225 miles) in just 22 minutes.

2023 Genesis Electrified G80 AWD as Tested
Our test 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 AWD was delivered in their elegant Hallasan Green with a Green/White interior.
The MSRP was $79,825. Adding a charge for the Hallasan Green exterior and destination charges, our test vehicle arrived total priced at $81,495.
Let’s talk a bit about the workings of the Electrified Genesis G80 AWD.
BATTERY / CHARGING / POWERTRAIN
A powerful 87.2 kWh Lithium-Ion traction battery is packaged flat and located under the cabin of the Electrified G80 AWD.
Note: With the Electrified G80 built on same platform (dimensions) as the G80 gasoline versions, the personal and cargo capacities are impacted by the battery placement and the rear axle drive motor.
Headroom in the cabin is slightly reduced with rear legroom measurably (3-inches) smaller. Trunk capacity reduces from 13.1 cubic feet to 10.8 cubic feet.
Accelerated Charging
Charging is through the Electrified G80’s 350kW/800V DC Fast-Charge capability enables a Fast Charge from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes, or fully replenish the battery in less than eight hours with a 240V (Level 2) charger.
Complimentary Fast-Charging
Fast charging is the way to go when on the road. Genesis has teamed-up with Electrify America to provide Electrified G80 owners three years of complimentary 30-minute DC fast charging sessions. Electrify America’s expansive charging network stretches from coast-to-coast, providing easy and convenient access to ultra-fast, high-powered EV charging stations.
Dual Motor All Wheel Drive
The 2023 Electrified G80 AWD is power by a dual electric motor all-wheel-drive system that produces a combined 365 horsepower with 516 lb.-ft. of torque. As you might expect, the instant torque makes acceleration is pretty quick – 0-60 mph in just over 4 seconds. Genesis reports range as 282 miles.
Through the optimization of All Wheel Drive, the Electrified G80 manages the driving force of the front or rear wheels, depending on road conditions, to deliver ideal responsiveness. The electric motors, positioned on both front and rear axles each, provide maximum power of 136kW to aggressively propel the Electrified G80 with exhilarating refinement.
Drive Mode Select
The Electrified G80 offers four distinct drive modes (DRIVE/ COMFORT / ECO / SPORT) that allow the driver to fine-tune performance through steering, throttle response and suspension firmness.
For example: Shifting into ECO mode to improves efficiency while SPORT mode gives quicker response with suspension stiffening and driver seat bolster tightening.
Electronically Controlled Suspension with Road Preview
The Electronically Controlled Suspension with Road Preview system uses the Electrified G80’s forward-facing camera scans the road ahead for speed bumps or potholes, then reacts instantly to optimize ride comfort and handling around every turn.
Smart Regenerative Braking
When coasting and subsequently applying the brakes, the “i-Pedal” regenerative braking system adjusts based on proximity to traffic ahead – converting the wheel’s rotation into energy stored in the battery for future use – replenishing battery life and extending range.
EXTERIOR
Interesting Genesis does not identify the Electrified G80 with any badging that tells the casual observer that they are looking at the “EV” version of a G80. But there are “tells”.
Of course, there is no sound of an engine running. At the rear, no tailpipes as there are no gases to exhaust. Up front, the G80 features the Genesis Crest in an inverted G-Matrix pattern. Charging door? Hidden in the upper right corner.
Other features are standard like All LED Lighting Front and Rear, Rain Sensing/Speed Sensitive Wipers, Power Folding Mirrors w/Puddle Lamps, Wide access doors, Power Door Closure, Power Hands-Free Trunk Opener and did we mention the gorgeous Hallasan Green exterior color?
INTERIOR
Inside the Electrified G80 AWD is elegant with simple functionality. Everything is just about where you expect it and operates pretty much straight forward including the Rotary Shift Dial and Infotainment System Controller.
Particularly notable is the stylish use of thin air vents stretching across the dash that splits the functional elements into (what Genesis calls) panoramic above and control below.
Panoramic features include the Heads-Up Display, 12.3-inch Instrument Cluster and 14.5-inch-wide view Infotainment Display. Below the ‘vent’ line are the operating controls including the integrated controller for HVAC and Rotary-Operated Electronic Shift.
Other elements include Heated and Ventilated seating with 16-way Power Driver Seat w/Power Bolster and Cushion Extender and 12-way Power Passenger Seat. Seating surfaces are light Nappa Leather with distinctive chevron accents highlighted by the dark accent trims.
OF NOTE: is the Ergo Motion Smart Posture Driver Seat which optimizes the driver seat configuration for each driving mode.
Other elements include: Matte Wood Trim, Leatherette Stitched Instrument Panel, Adjustable Ambient Lighting, Power Rear and Manual Side Sunshades, Power Hands-free Smart Trunk, Power Door Closure, 3-Zone Climate Control w/Rear Seating Controls, Wireless Device Charger, Proximity Key / Push Button Start, and Active Noise Control – all to keep a premium cabin premium quiet.
MULTIMEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY
There is plenty of multimedia and technology in Electrified G80 AWD.
A 14.5-inch HD Infotainment Screen is integrated with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It’s Premium Navigation System allows customization of the display with the audio, weather, or navigation content. A conversational voice command feature adds convenience to the control the windows, air conditioner, and trunk.
Audio in the 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 delivers ideal sound through the Lexicon Premium Audio system with 1050 watts of power and 21 speakers optimally positioned and powered by QuantumLogic Surround. Stainless steel grilles deliver crisp and clear projection, while under-seat subwoofers enhance the listening experience with rich bass.
A Vehicle to Load Charging feature utilizes the Electrified G80’s high-capacity battery to provide up to 1.9kW to a 110-volt outlet, that can power small devices outside of the vehicle.
A favorite of ours in Genesis is the Remote Smart Parking Assist. With the press and hold of a button, the ‘Smart Park Assist” helps makes parking maneuvers effortless, automatically controlling the steering, speed, and gears in both parallel and perpendicular scenarios.
Other Features
AM/FM /SiriusXM/HD Radio, Bluetooth Hands-free phone, Wireless Device Charger, Genesis Digital Key and USB (1 data/1 charge) front and two charge rear.
Rounding out the technology integration on the Electrified G80 AWD is the Genesis Connected Services telematics system providing a plethora of additional features including Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates.
SAFETY
The 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 AWD has been awarded a IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) Top Safety Pick Plus certification – the top award from the most prestigious safety testing organization.
Some of the notable safety features include: Safe Exit Assist, Advanced Rear Occupant Alert, Driver Attention Warning, Forward Attention Warning, Blind Spot View Monitor, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Surround View Monitor, Blind Spot View Monitor, Smart Cruise Control w/Stop and Go, Lane Keeping Assist w/Road Edge and Lane Following Assist.
WARRANTY
Genesis provides a 10-year 100,000-mile Electric Vehicle Systems warranty to cover the “electrification” components of this vehicle.
In addition, the standard warranty provisions found on non-EV Genesis vehicles – which include: 5-year 60,000-mile New Vehicle Warranty, 10-year 100,000-mile Powertrain Warranty and 3-year 36,000-mile Complimentary Maintenance – apply to the Electrified G80 as well.
