All-new Uconnect 5 will first appear in 2021 Chrysler Pacifica with a 10.1-inch touchscreen
FCA introduces Uconnect 5 – their most advanced vehicle User Experience (UX) system ever.
Uconnect is already the industry leader in UX technology says FCA. Now they are taking it further – expanding the new, more powerful fifth generation Uconnect to all FCA brand vehicles in 2021.
The all-new Uconnect 5 – using a new Android based operating system – is more connected, helpful, content rich and adds greater personalization while expanding UX functionality outside of the vehicle itself.
With future growth in mind, the Uconnect 5 Android operating system lays a foundation, bringing access to a broad catalog of applications to respond to rapidly developing demand for an improved user experience (UX).
User Experience (UX) in the Marketplace
According to FCA, research reveals that 51-percent of new-car buyers consider in-vehicle technology important in their purchase decision. When making the next purchase, 64-percent of customers reported their technology experience was a consideration in decision to buy from the brand again.
FCA tells us that their Uconnect digital platform, tailored for each brand, vehicle and region, is often cited asa significant reason for purchase.
The award-winning Uconnect system has led the industry in content and exclusive features since its inception in 2003 and this new (fifth generation) Uconnect 5 continues the momentum.
Uconnect 5 for 2021
Let’s look at how Uconnect 5 is enhancing the User Experience (UX) for 2021.
User Experience (UX) Design Focus
With UX shown as a significant reason for purchase – FCA says Uconnect 5 provides an easy-to-use, intuitive and personalized experience for every customer.
The UX design team worked hand in hand with the interior and color and material design teams to seamlessly integrate the new technology into each brand and vehicle and make appropriate use of the three available screen styles – portrait, square and landscape.
UX designers created detailed backdrops and screen graphics to match interior colors and themes specific to brand and trim levels. A new font style has been designed to improve visibility dramatically.
The all-new Uconnect 5 allows users to create an exclusive home screen with a familiar feel. A new, card-based format allows display screens to be personalized, simplified and grouped by individual needs and interests while delivering a cleaner, fresher look. Using multiple cards, the user can access the available features – displaying them where they want – for single touch access.
New hardware – in concert with the new Android operating system – enhances system processing power, reaction speed and memory.
Atlantis architecture replaces Powernet as the next generation of FCA core in-vehicle electronics communication. In combination with an upgraded 50K MIPS chip, 6GB of RAM and up to 64GB of flash memory, the all-new Uconnect 5 delivers speed five times faster than the previous generation.
The system supports up to four display screens in a vehicle across multiple aspect ratios (standard, landscape and portrait) for flexibility in design across all FCA brands.
Personalization is one of the attractive features related to consumer products that the Android operating system brings to the new Uconnect 5.
The all-new Uconnect 5 features several fully customizable interfaces storing up to five different user (plus Valet) profiles. Each customer can build their own profile, featuring preferences for music and vehicle operation. The system also connects vehicle systems like seat and mirror positions, to each driver’s profile.
Enhanced Alexa Integration
With the Uconnect integration of Alexa, customers with Alexa-enabled devices at home can easily ask Alexa to start the car, lock/unlock doors and more. Moreover, Uconnect 5 brings Amazon Alexa directly into the vehicle itself, giving occupants the freedom to interact with Alexa just as they do at home or on a personal device.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are currently available on more than 80 percent of FCA’s North American applications. Uconnect 5 will bring wireless connectivity Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as they are extended to all of FCA’s North American offerings.
The 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, with a five times faster operating system, keeps eight devices connected. Further, the new software, hardware and operating system is designed to evolve to 5G.
