The 2024 Genesis Electrified GV70 is the EV version of the top trim levels of the popular and successful gasoline powered Genesis GV70. It shares all of the room, luxury, technology and convenience features with the addition of the performance and economy of a robust Electrified AWD powertrain.
The Electrified GV70 AWD comes in two fully fitted out trim levels – Advanced (MSRP $65,850) and Prestige (MSRP $72,650). Both are AWD and share the same platforms and EV elements.
Genesis recently loaned us one for a week in Central Texas. Let’s take a closer look.
AS TESTED
Our test vehicle was the top-trim 2024 Genesis Electrified GV70 AWD Prestige. It came in a deep rich Capri Blue with a luscious Glacler White Two-Tone Nappa Leather Quilted Seat interior.
The base MSRP was $66,450. The Prestige Package ($6,800) added the Nappa Leather Seating plus a Leatherette Wrapped Upper Instrument Panel, Microfiber Suede Headliner, 12.3-inch 3D Instrument Cluster, Head-up Display, Lexicon Premium Audio, Active Noise Control, Heated Second Row Seating, Heated Steering Wheel and Manual Rear Door Shades. The Capri color was $575.
Adding delivery and handling, our Electrified GV70 AWD Prestige priced at $75,020.
Let’s take a closer look starting with the EV Powertrain, Battery and Performance.
POWERTRAIN / BATTERY / PERFORMANCE
Elegant and athletic, the Electrified GV70 offers powerful performance paired with standard all-wheel drive (AWD) to satisfy drivers of all types.
Powerful dual electric motors of the Electrified GV70 produce up to 320 kW (180kW each axle) delivering the powerful equivalent of 429 hp and 516 lb.-ft. of torque.
When you have to have some spot acceleration, the Electrified GV70 offers a standard Boost Mode, allowing the driver to boost performance with 483 HP of output for 10 seconds – enough to dart past and get in front of that 18-wheeler alongside.
A plus feature is the 350kW rapid charging system that enables the 77.4 kWh battery to charge from 10% to 80% in less than 20 minutes when using a Direct Charge charger.
Enhancing the EV powertrain, a Disconnector Actuator System (DAS) automatically connects or disconnects the motor and drive shaft depending on driving conditions, to enable seamless switching between 2WD and AWD. This ultimately helping reduce unnecessary power loss and increasing driving efficiency.
The Electrified GV70 driving experience is further enhanced with Smart Regenerative Braking System 2.0, which regenerates energy through the braking system based on driving habits, real-time navigation, and road conditions.
A feature we loved – in driving mode – is the Intelligent Pedal (i-Pedal) that allows the driver to accelerate, decelerate, and slow to a stop using just the accelerator pedal.
CHARGERS / CHARGING / RANGE
The rated range for a fully charged Electrified GV70 is 236 miles which is reasonably enough for local and suburban travel.
The standard Level 1 charging cord available with the Electrified GV70 enables connection to 120V (household current) in the home. Slow, it will recharge the GV70 in upwards of 68 hours depending on the stage of battery depletion. If all your driving is around town over the course of a week, nightly ‘topping off’ will probably suffice.
However, on the road, say Austin to Houston or to Dallas, the 236-mile range gets you there but you will need a recharge to return.
Genesis has partnered with Electrify America (one of America’s largest charging networks) to provide Electrified GV70 owners with three years of complimentary 30-minute DC Fast-Charging sessions in their network of over 3000 locations nationally.
The Electrified GV70 is equipped with the Fast Charge Direct Charge connectivity allowing (depending on the recharge power station) rapid charging (10% to 80%) in as little as 18 minutes. Depending on your travel planning, one can get enough recharge while getting a bite to eat or visiting a client.
For the home, Genesis recommends homeowners install Level 2 Charging at the house. Electrify America offers their Electrify Home HomeStation system. With Level 2 installed, owners can charge their vehicle at the home (10% to100% charge) in about 7 hours.
EXTERIOR
The Crest Grille pf the Electrified GV70 has evolved into an aerodynamic crest featuring an inverted G-Matrix pattern and incorporating a hidden EV charging port. A refined rear bumper and simplified, tailpipe-free skid plate emphasizes the SUV’s electric nature of the Electrified GV70’s evolved profile.
Completing an elegant and eye-catching look, are the 20- inch alloy wheels and the proprietary – deep and rich – Genesis Capri Blue paint that exudes richness and depth.
Features of note include Power Hands-Free Smart Liftgate w/Auto Open, LED Headlights, Daytime Running Lights and Taillights. Mirrors are power-folding, heated and include outside approach lighting. Other exterior elements include the Panoramic Sunroof, Rain and Speed Sensitive Wipers and Auto Defogging Windshield.
INTERIOR
The Electrified GV70 interior is every bit as spacious, comfortable and richly appointed as its gasoline powered cousins.
The two-tone Glacier White Nappa Leather Quilted Seating is elegant looking and superbly comfortable. Front seating is 14-way power for the driver and 12- way power for the passenger. Seats are both heated and ventilated and feature Power Cushion Extensions w/Bolstering.
Comfort is assured with 3-Zone Climate Control.
For added driving comfort, the Electrified GV70 also comes equipped with Active Noise Control-Road (ANC-R) that significantly reduces the level of noise by measuring and analyzing road noises and simultaneously creating soundwaves at opposite frequencies.
MULTIMEDIA & CONNECTED SERVICES
There is plenty of multi-media and technology in the 2024 Genesis Electrified GV70 AWD Prestige.
The instrument cluster in the Prestige is 12.3-inch and digital. Audio in the cabin was through the Lexicon Premium Audio w/surround sound, 15 high efficiency speakers and 1,050-watt amplifier.
Auto and related features included SiriusXM, Bluetooth Hands-free phone, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Control of the media and other features was through a 14.5-inch High-Definition LCD color display w/Navigation.
Other elements included Wireless Phone Charging, the full suite of Genesis Connected Services and more.
SAFETY / CONVENIENCE
The 2024 Electrified Genesis GV70 AWD has been top-rated as an IIHS Top Safety Pick + for collision safety.
A very comprehensive array of driver safety and convenience features are standard on the Electrified GV70y.
The include a Surround View Monitor, Smart Cruise Control w/ Stop & Go, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keep and Lane Follow Assist.
