Lexus introduces new F Sport trim level to the 2019 Lexus ES 350 Sedan line
For 2019, the venerable Lexus ES sedan line gets its first F Sport model. Taking updated performance and styling cues from the GSF, RCF and LC performance cars, the ES 350 F Sport offers a much sportier version of their popular ES series of front-wheel drive sedans.
The seventh generation ES, built on the all-new Lexus Global Architecture Platform – K (GA-K), offers newly refreshed styling and improved performance. All trims are longer, lower and wider providing a larger cabin while a wider track and a more rigid chassis improve ride and handling.
Traditionally appealing to the older driver market for its interior comfort quality and value, the new and well-priced ES 350 F Sport offers a new more exciting drive opportunity for a younger driver segment.
We think there is also a considerable number of their traditional ‘older’ driver segment – not as old as their age – who will welcome the F Sport as well.
2019 Lexus ES 350 F Sport
Lexus sent us a pre-production ES 350 F Sport in late July for us to evaluate. Though not available in dealerships before September, it is obviously well anticipated, being immediately noticed by a number of Lexus drivers in our community who were very interested in taking a look.
Our test ES 350 F Sport came in the new Ultra White exterior crisply complimented by dark accents on selected exterior trim features – including a revised grille with a new meshed pattern of interlocking Gloss Black “L”s, front fascia cut-outs, rear spoiler, lower valance, rear taillights and F Sport badging.
Finishing the F Sport exterior were handsome 19-inch Split-Spoke Wheels in a dark premium graphite coating.
On taking a look inside, they noted the signature Circuit Red/Black interior (Black is available) and new custom Hadori Aluminum Trim with enthusiastic favorable comment each time.
With a MSRP of just $44,035 – the new ES 350 F Sport brings a new value price and performance dimension to the ES 350 drive experience.
New Powertrain adds Performance
The new ES 350 F Sport looks good, but drives even better, just like we expected from an F Sport.
The ES 350 F Sport is powered by an updated 3.5L V6 engine with D-4S fuel injection. Sporting a redline increase from 6,200 to 6,600 rpm, it now delivers 302 horsepower and 267 lb.-ft. of torque – an increase of 34 hp and 19 lb.-ft. from the prior version.
Mated to a newly developed 8-speed Direct Shift Automatic Transmission that replaces the earlier 6-speed, it offers a wider range of gearing managed by a new AI (Artificial Intelligence) system. The AI amplifies the added horsepower and torque as it adjusts shift points continuously for optimal performance.
The F Sport ride is further enhanced by the Lexus Drive Mode Select system (DMS). The driver-selectable driving modes include Eco, Normal and Sport. In cars equipped with the Adaptable Variable Suspension (like our F Sport), the Sport mode is replaced with performance-tuned Sport S and Sport S+ and an added Custom setting.
Equipped with dual chromed exhausts, the 2019 ES 350 F Sport features Active Noise Control and Engine Sound Enhancement, which while subtle, does enhance the F Sport ride experience.
Based on our multiple drives of the previous powertrain combination in the ES – we can tell you – under the hood and on the road, the new ES 350 F Sport will make a driving enthusiast smile.
Features to Note
The ES 350 F Sport is well featured, before options, including things like Power Moon Roof, Lexus Climate Concierge, 10-way Power Adjustable seating, 8-inch TFT Instrument Panel Display, updated Remote Touch Pad Interface, LED Cornering Lamps, Adaptive Front Lighting, Lexus Park Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert w/Brake, Lane Change Assist and more.
Also included are the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 with their new Lane Tracking Assist and All Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Road Sign Assist.
Technology features now include Apple CarPlay integration and Amazon Alexa – but, strangely, no Android Auto.
When you order the 2019 Lexus ES 350 F Sport, you also get Premium Package features including Heated and Ventilated Seats, Driver Seat Memory, Power Tilt/telescoping Steering Wheel, Rain Sensing Wipers and Power Side Mirrors with Reverse Tilt.
Other Optional Features Available
Available option items included on our test car were the Wide Full Color Head-up Display ($500), Hands-free Power Trunk ($550), Premium Triple-Beam LED Headlamps with Daytime Running Lights ($1,515), Mark Levinson Audio and Navigation System w/12.3-inch display ($3,000).
- A word about the Mark Levinson audio – Featuring 1,800 watts of power, 17-speakers and Clari-Fi technology, it produces some of the best sound around. Like the Adaptive Variable Suspension, we say buy it.
Available Items not on our test car were: Wireless Smartphone Charging Pad ($75), Power Rear Sunshade ($210) and Blind Spot Monitor w/Park Assist ($1,065).
Cutting to the chase, as near as we could figure – including delivery – our 2018 ES 350 F Sport ‘pre-production prototype’ would sticker price right around $52,000 ordered from the factory.
2019 Lexus ES 350 and ES 300h.
The 2019 Lexus ES 350 starts at MSRP $39,500.
The fuel-efficient ES 300h Hybrid will have an MSRP of $41,310 and is said to deliver 43/45 mpg city/highway with 44 mpg combined.
Delivery, processing and handling is $1,025 for all ES models.
As of this writing, the consumer website for the 2019 ES line of vehicles is not live. We know that they started coming off the production line at Georgetown, KY the first week of August.
Your local dealer should have cars on their lots by early September.
The 2019 ES 350 will be very good for sure. We say the ES 350 F Sport will be better.
