Toyota showing new special edition trucks – and more – at State Fair of Texas
Plano based, Toyota – now the hometown and home state – automotive manufacturer considers their involvement in communities across Texas and participation in the Texas State Fair an integral part of the fabric of who they are.
For 2018 Toyota has populated their State Fair Auto Show exhibits in the Centennial Building and the Truck Zone with the latest and greatest of Toyota brand vehicles available – plus concept vehicles, technology displays and interactive opportunities for the whole family.
In the Truck Zone, Toyota is hosting Toyota Live Powered by JBL – an outdoor stage and high definition big screen that will present live music and concerts and broadcast professional and college football games throughout the run of the Fair.
Highlighting their participation this year are three new 2019 special edition Toyota trucks on display in the Truck Zone. They are the 4Runner Nightshade, Tundra SX Package and Tacoma SX Blackout.
The 2019 4Runner Nightshade Special Edition based on the Limited trim level. Toyota says it adds mystique with stylish upgrades that make it unique among its peers. They include Black accents on front and rear bumper spoilers, outer mirrors and door handles, window moldings, rocker panels, door garnish, roof rails and badging.
Up front, black chrome moldings are fitted on the grille slots and, in back, the exhaust tip gets the black treatment as well. Black 20-inch wheels help complete the sleek exterior. Inside, black interior trim features include the steering wheel, center cluster and console panels, shift knob and shifter panel, and inner door grips.
The 4Runner Nightshade Special Edition is available in Limited 4×2 or 4×4 models for an additional $1,740.
It is available at dealerships now in select colors: Midnight Black Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic and Blizzard Pearl.
Tundra SX Package
Using the SR5 grade Double Cab (4×2 or 4×4) powered by the 5.7-liter i-FORCE V8 engine, the SX Package gives owners an opportunity to demonstrate the toughness of their ride in a personal way.
Toyota has relied on a selection of color-keyed accents and blacked-out wheels in the SX Package to present a clean yet aggressive look for owners. The exterior of the truck is streamlined with the removal of all exterior badging. Next, color-keyed front grille surrounds, front bumper end caps and a rear bumper are added for a uniform appearance. Front bucket seats are upgraded for added comfort while 18-inch black alloy wheels complete the look.
The Tundra SX Package is available now for $1,630 on SR5 Tundra grades. Available colors are Super White, Midnight Black Metallic, and Barcelona Red Metallic.
Tacoma SX Blackout
We find it nearly amazing that, for 2019, the Tacoma is offered in an impressive 32 different versions including a new black-out themed SX Package priced at – are you ready? – just $560.
The SX Package is based on the Tacoma SR grade and is available on 4x2s and 4x4s on Access Cab models. It features black-out treatment on high-visibility parts such as the badging, overfenders, mirror caps, grille, door handles and headlamps. It also gets the addition of 16-inch matte black alloy wheels.
It is available on six different colors that include Super White, Silver Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Midnight Black Metallic, Barcelona Red Metallic and Quicksand.

2019 RAV4 is coming soon
We did get a good look at the all-new 2019 Toyota RAV4 small SUV at the Media Preview the day before the Fair opened. Regrettably it is not on display for the run of the Fair because it is not yet available for sale.
However, we did get some pictures of the 2019 RAV4 Adventure during the press conference introducing the special edition 4Runner, Tacoma and Tundra trucks.
For 2019, RAV4 offers a more robust styling on the new TNGA platform that allows it to be lower and wider, but have shorter overhangs improving its ability to handle rugged terrain.
Two powertrains are available – a 2.5L four-cylinder gasoline engine mated to an eight-speed Direct-Shift automatic transmission (five gas models) and a 2.5L Toyota Hybrid System II with an Electronically-Controlled Continuously-Variable transmission for the four hybrid models.
Getting you where you need to go, RAV4 offers three AWD drive systems. They include a Toyota-first Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD with Rear Driveline Disconnect, a non-dynamic torque vectoring AWD system (both with Multi-Terrain Select drive control) and an AWD-i system for the hybrid models.
We will save the rest for after we get our first drive done. Stay tuned or sign up for direct updates from Toyota here: https://www.toyota.com/upcoming-vehicles/rav4/
