The all-new Jeep Gladiator – said by Jeep to be the most capable midsize truck ever – has been named the 2020 North American Truck of the Year by the North American Car of the Year (NACTOY) panel of automotive experts.

Jeep says further, that their innovative Gladiator is ‘erasing boundaries’.  We agree.  If you can get yourself a seriously capable Jeep Wrangler plus a truck bed – with both off-road chops and city/highway credibility – why look anywhere else?  The NACTOY experts appear to also agree, bestowing the honor on Gladiator in its inaugural year.

The award is unique and considered by many to be one of the world’s most prestigious based on its diverse mix of 50 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada who serve as the voting jurors.

“The Jeep Gladiator is not only the world’s most capable midsize pickup, it’s now the North American Truck of the Year as well,” said Jim Morrison, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA North America. “This honor is a testament to our customers who demand the very best and the Gladiator delivers with all of the 4×4 capability and versatility expected of a Jeep vehicle.”

The NACTOY organization’s awards are independent and unique because instead of being given by a single publication, website, radio or television station, they are selected by a jury of automotive journalists representing diverse media outlets from the United States and Canada.
Jurors evaluate the finalists based on segment leadership, innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar. The process, which started in June 2019 by determining a list of eligible vehicles, includes three rounds of voting.

Some others say…..

The truck category reflected the growing popularity of mid-size trucks as the Ford Ranger and Jeep Gladiator squared off against the Ram Heavy Duty. Ultimately, jurors selected the Jeep Gladiator as the winner.

“What’s not to like about a pickup truck with not only a soft-top removable roof but even removable doors? If you want massive cargo-hauling capability or the ability to tow 10,000 pounds, buy something else,” said longtime automotive journalist John Voelcker. “The eagerly awaited Gladiator is a one-of-a-kind truck, every bit the Jeep its Wrangler sibling is … but with a pickup bed. How could you possibly get more American than that?”

About NACTOY

The NACTOY awards recognize the most outstanding new vehicles of the year. These vehicles are benchmarks in their segments based on factors including innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar.  The organization gives out three awards.

They are: “North American Car of the Year,” “North American Utility of the Year,” and “North American Truck of the Year.” The awards are unique because — instead of being given by a single publication, website, radio or television station — they are given by an independent jury of automotive journalists from the United States and Canada.
