The 2018 Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport will be the final special-edition Sport that Ram will offer in the 2017 calendar year. Previously, Ram – for just the Ram 1500 Sport trim – has offered  Sublime (Green), Copper, Ignition Orange and Black Sport Package editions since 2015.  With bold colors and trim accents and key value features included, as limited editions, these trucks have kept buyers coming back for more.

“The custom look and high-impact colors have been well received in the marketplace and this new Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport will surely stand out on dealers’ lots and in customers’ driveways,” says Mike Manley, Head of Jeep & Ram Brands. “Enthusiasts demand that their trucks get noticed and our Ram 1500 Sport lineup delivers a durable, powerful alternative with great visual appeal”.

Ram Sport Special Edition History

Ram has been offering special edition packages on their popular Ram 1500 Sport model since the 2015 model year.

In spring of 2015, Ram debuted – what they called then – their “Buzz models in Sport Trim” limited to just 1,000 vehicles each.  Two packages were offered, the Black Sport derived from their then Black Express package and an in-your-face colored Ignition Orange Sport which set the stage for the series of bold and brash colored Sport model package editions that followed.

Well pleased with the customer response to the Ignition Orange Sport special edition, Ram set out on a journey of offering special edition packages on their popular priced Ram 1500 Sport trim sans the ‘Buzz’ moniker.

In late 2016, Ram reintroduced the Ignition Orange Sport for the 2017 model year with limited production of just 1,500 of the bright orange trucks. As became the standard, the 2017 Ram 1500 Sport Ignition Orange was offered on the V8 powered (4×2 and 4×4) crew cab models only.

It should be noted that, at the same time, Ram also began offering special edition packages on their popular Ram 1500 Rebel off-road truck revealing the first of several to come– the Ram Rebel Mojave Sand – at that time.  But that is another story.

The Ram 1500 Sport Sublime special edition package was introduced in Spring 2017 with a new and bodacious bright lime green exterior that was sure to attract attention.  Just 3,000 of these V8 crew cab versions with their Sport Performance hoods and newly available big 22-inch Black aluminum wheels were produced. They did not sit long on dealer lots.

Earlier this year, Ram added a Ram 1500 Copper Sport special edition to the lineup. Featuring a very distinctive Copper exterior with Copper colored accents stitching and trims inside – Ram upped the ante by including a nine-speaker Alpine premium audio system with subwoofer to the package. As had become the norm, Ram limited production to just 3,000 vehicles.

Note that Ram tells us this Ram Hydro Blue Sport is the ‘last one in the 2017 calendar year’.  We fully expect at least one more, if not two, before the new generation Ram 1500 arrives on dealer lots late next year.
