Doug asks: “I have a 2007 VW Touareg Diesel with 98k miles. I would like to flush the automatic transmission, but can’t find anyone to do it. The longer I own this VW, the more I find out that they are difficult to work on. What would you do?”
Mike: Doug, those models are difficult to flush because they are supposed to be a sealed unit. It is a half hour job and a long drawn out procedure just to check the fluid level. Unless your shop is a European car specialist or a VW Dealer, they won’t tackle the job. I’d go to the dealer and get it done. Unfortunately, the fluid is fully synthetic so it will be expensive. And yes, VW’s and vehicles in general are becoming more difficult for independent shops to handle. The technology in new vehicles can be too expensive to keep up with for a small shop.
